Mount Cho Oyu is the sixth-highest mountain in the world, located on the border between Nepal and Tibet (China). It stands at 8,188 meters (26,864 feet) above sea level. Cho Oyu is renowned among climbers for its relatively straightforward ascent compared to other 8,000-meter peaks, making it a popular choice for mountaineers aiming to conquer one of the world's highest summits. Despite its accessibility, it still poses significant challenges due to high altitudes and extreme weather conditions.
DAY 1: Arrival in Kathmandu & transfer to the hotel

DAY 2: Rest day in Kathmandu: Tibet Visa Preparation

DAY 3: Apply for Tibet Visa and Expedition Briefing

DAY 4: Rest in Kathmandu

DAY 5: Drive from Kathmandu to Timure

DAY 6: Cross the border of Nepal and drive to Kerung (1962m)

DAY 7: Drive from Kerung to Thingri (4,300m)

DAY 8: Acclimatization and preparation day in Thingri

DAY 9: Drive from Thingri to Cho Oyu Chinese Basecamp (5,100m) via Rombuk Monastery

DAY 10-11: Rest in Cho Oyu Chinese Basecamp

DAY 13: Trek from Cho-Oyu Chinese Basecamp to Intermediate Camp (5,400m)

DAY 14: Ascent from Intermediate Camp to Advanced Basecamp (5,700m)

DAY 15-35: Climbing Period [Adv. Basecamp – Cho Oyu Summit (8,188m) – Adv. Basecamp]

DAY 36: Trek from Adv. Basecamp to Chinese Basecamp

DAY 37: Drive from Chinese Basecamp to Thingri

DAY 38: Drive from Thingri to Kerung Border Day

DAY 39: Cross the border and drive to Kathmandu

DAY 40: Leisure day in Kathmandu

DAY 41: Transfer to airport for final departure

  1. Backpack; 35-45 litre alpine climbing pack
  2. Duffle bag for carry by the horse

  19. Down Sleeping Bag (sleeping bag comfort rating -30c) and another sleeping bag for basecamp (rating -15c)

High quality 100% UV, 100% IR, minimum 80% light reduction.

Side shields are optional but size shape of lens should offer maximum protection from bright on snow

Technical gear (depend on snow condition during the climb)

Trek grading: Very hard and technical mountain. Climbing experience is important with minimum highest peak climb of 7000m.

Fitness: Good fitness is essential. Good technical skills. Familiar with rock climbing and repelling.  You should be able to hike for up to a week without undue difficulty, carrying a backpack weighing between 10-15kg in undulating mountain terrain with an elevation between 3000 – 5000 meter.
