Climbing Mount Manaslu is a challenging and rewarding adventure that attracts experienced mountaineers seeking a less crowded alternative to some of the more popular peaks in the Himalayas. Standing at 8,163 meters (26,781 feet), Manaslu offers a formidable ascent with technical climbing sections, including crevasses, icefalls, and steep slopes.
The climb typically involves establishing base camps at different elevations to acclimatize to the high altitude. Climbers often face unpredictable weather conditions, adding to the complexity of the ascent. The climb is known for its stunning panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks and the diverse landscapes encountered during the journey. The trek to the base camp and the climb itself provide a unique cultural experience as the region is home to diverse ethnic communities.

DAY 1: Arrival in Kathmandu & transfer to the hotel

DAY 3: Expedition Briefing

DAY 4: Drive to Besishahar

DAY 5: Drive to Darapani and trek to Tilje | 1800m

DAY 6: Tilje to Yak Kharka | 3000m

DAY 7: Yak Kharka to Bimtang | 3800m

DAY 8: Bimtang to Phekdi | 4600m

DAY 9: Phekdi to Larka Pass – Samdo | 3800m

DAY 10: Rest in Samdo

DAY 11: Samdo to Samagon | 3500m

DAY 12: Samagon to Manaslu Basecamp | 4700m

DAY 13-35: Climbing Period | Basecamp – Manalsu Summit (8,163m) – Basecamp

DAY 36: Helicopter ride to Khatmandu

DAY 37: Leisure day in Kathmandu

DAY 38: Transfer to airport for final departure

  1. Backpack; 35-45 litre alpine climbing pack
  2. Duffle bag for carry by the horse
  3. Thermal top
  4. Thermal bottom
  5. Lightweight Down/Primaloft Jacket/vest or/and
  6. Fleece Jacket (recommended not more than 250g weight)
  7. Waterproof jacket
  8. Waterproof outer pants
  9. Trekking Pants
  10. Trekking/ Glacier Shirt
  11. Gaiters (Waterproof)
  12. Mountaineering gloves (waterproof)
  13. Fleece finger gloves /windstopper
  14. Finger / Liner gloves
  15. Trekking Boots (waterproof & insulated)
  16. Socks – minimum 3 pairs – synthetic/wool blend sock
  17. Woollen hat/fleece hat
  18. Scarf or Bandanna or Buff (for sun protection) (recommended)
  19. Down Sleeping Bag (sleeping bag comfort rating 0c)
  20. Foam Matt /inflatable matt
  21. Helmet
  22. Glacier Glasses (sunglasses)
    • High quality 100% UV, 100% IR, minimum 80% light reduction.
    • Side shields are optional but size shape of lens should offer
    • Maximum protection from bright on snow

  24. Water Bottle (1 litres) wide mouth nelgene (1 compulsory) extra will be good.

Technical gear (depend on snow condition during the climb)

  1. Sit harness
  2. Open gate/locking carabineer 2pcs
  3. 1 meter sling
  4. Crampon
  5.  Ice axe

Trek grading: Very hard and technical mountain. Climbing experience is important with minimum highest peak climb of 7000m.

Fitness: Good fitness is essential. Good technical skills. Familiar with rock climbing and repelling.  You should be able to hike for up to a week without undue difficulty, carrying a backpack weighing between 10-15kg in undulating mountain terrain with an elevation between 3000 – 5000 meter.
